About KAP

Giving Knowledge Wings.

CSAT's Knowledge Application Program (KAP) provides substance abuse treatment professionals with publications, online education, and other resources that contain information on best treatment practices.

How Does It Work?
We take knowledge about best treatment practices in substance abuse treatment and package and promote it in a way that ensures that its application in the field is widespread. This is accomplished through a strategic program. Through this program, KAP staff produces, markets, and distributes publications and products; strives for cultural competency; gathers, analyzes, and uses market research; and enlists the assistance of national experts to ensure that KAP is responsive to the needs of its many audiences and that its products are representative of the many areas of substance abuse treatment. KAP networks with constituents through presentations and conferences.

How Do We Know What You Want in These Products?
Simple — we ask.

The Cultural Competency and Diversity Network (CCDN) is made up of individuals from a variety of cultural groups that counsel KAP. The purpose of the CCDN is to assist KAP in improving the cultural competency of KAP products and documents. To date, there are CCDN work groups for Native Americans; Hispano/Latinos; Asian and Pacific Islanders; African Americans; lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals; aging populations; and people with disabilities.

The Multi-Language Initiative (MLI) also works to ensure that KAPs products are accessible, culturally meaningful, and sensitive to the populations it serves. This is accomplished by adapting KAP materials for consumers or clients whose first language is not English.
